A Peerie Update

Well folks, it has been a pretty busy and humbling few weeks for us! We’d like to say thanks to everyone who came to see us, have watched the videos and have made all the effort worth it. We couldn’t have done the Fandango without the help of Gwyn Morgan Davies & Lewis Murray (who stood in for Gwyn last Saturday at a day’s notice). Special thanks must also go to the kind folk at Whalsay School for the use of the gong. We’re putting Bohemian Rhapsody into semi-retirement for now though, mainly because of the logistics involved.

The next time it will feature in our set will be on Friday the 31st of August at the Lerwick Legion when we’re putting on a gig we’re calling ‘First Foot Soldiers & Friends’. We’re hoping to have a lot of special guests, from the precocious to the well-travelled, allowing us to play songs we couldn’t play otherwise – songs that you may never have heard being played at a live gig in Shetland before. More details to follow nearer the time.

In the meantime, we’re going to keep adding great songs to our setlist. We hope you’ll come out to see us and have a brilliant time.

Chowdy!

Shetland Folk Festival 2012

Well that’s us done our bit. We played a short concert set on Friday evening, and our rhapsodically bohemian drummer friend Gwyn recorded them. They are all on YouTube and collated into a playlist below:

We played upstairs in the club last night and finished with Bohemian Rhapsody. Still a bit speechless after it to be honest. The whole gig was filmed and we’ll hopefully get some of it online in the near future. Thanks to Peter Johnson, Amy Morgan & Layla Sawford for that.

We’d also like to say a big thank you to Stevie Hook, Amanda Pearson & Gary Smith for doing sound for us, and to everyone else who helped us over the past few weeks leading up to and during our sets. Lastly, but not leastly, thanks to the Friday & Saturday night audiences for making it immensely enjoyable all round.
Love xxx

PS: We got a mention in The Scotsman, although we are left wondering if the reviewer stayed until the end…

A reader emails…

Good Day firstfootsoldiers.com and Friends,

I came across your site, firstfootsoldiers.com, and noticed that we share a similar interest in the health and wellness of Veterans. I think that your site offers a wonderful source of information and relevant resources to your viewers. I believe I have a great addition to your collection of links. My name is Sarah Anderson, the Communications Director for Mesothelioma Resource Online. Approximately 30% of all patients in the UK and the US diagnosed with this lethal form of cancer served in the military at some point. However, our site, www.MesotheliomaSymptoms.com, is an excellent resource to learn about Asbestos in the military and the various treatment options for Mesothelioma.

I saw that on your site, http://www.firstfootsoldiers.com/links/, has some links to some other great veteran resources, and I would be grateful if you shared our site, MesotheliomaSymptoms.com. Ideally, this would be a single text link to Mesothelioma to help raise awareness. Please let me know if this interests you. I look forward to your reply.

Respectfully,
Sarah Anderson

Well thank you Sarah, I hope this post raises awareness of what appears to be a law firm specialising in profiting off the backs of the kind of horrors that it creates in the first place by ‘sucking the black wormy jizz of satan’, as Bill might have said. I wish you luck in your quest traveller, and hope that you can join us in Room 16 of Islesburgh, approximately 2 hours before sunrise, where we shall be debuting Bohemian Rhapsody at the end of our set in the Shetland Folk Festival late club.

Disrespectfully,

Beelzebub.
